NO-NAME-COLOGNE

No-Name-Cologne (NNC) is a set of names. This set was generated by chance, not by idealistic contruction. NNC’s generation was made possible because of the Berlin Biennale’s Hybrid Workspace. This casual identity was a challenge for the single name-elements to ask for an idea that could hold them for the days in Kassel together. So one part of the NNC-Kassel programm consisted in the search for ideas. Every morning NNC’s elements ordered themselves around Deleuzes/Guattaris “Mille Plateaux”. The distinction of the french philosophers between “le lisse et le strie” was discussed. It did not match to the situation of the single members at home in Cologne or Duesseldorf, but it did match to the afternoon and evening sessions in Kassel. NNC could give evidence to the trifold situation of todays low budget artists. Today every artist has to divide himself into a management-disecting unit, a working unit and a secretary unit.
The difficulty to keep low budget trinity stable in oneselfs personality demands power. The power invested for the stability of the trinity is missing at other crucial points. For example the interaction with other elements.
It turned out that music is a driving force that destabilizes the individual organisation of work but strengthens the being together and becoming a group with other elements. The music played at the NNC sessions in Hybrid Workspace was made possible through carving old records. The loops produced by this carvings rhythmisized the interactions between the elements of NNC and their guests. So we may say after the Hybrid Workspace NNC is a set of elements that has been connected through the carving of sounds. This connection is now again unstable but can be reinforced at other situations.
