  • In 1993 during the first Next 5 Minutes Conference in Amsterdam a database of all video tapes shown during that conference has been made. Most of these video tapes have been acquired or copied by the Documentation Center of Modern Social Movements of the International Institute of Social History in Amsterdam. In the same year a catalogue with 297 titles have been published by Bas Raijmakers and Tjebbe van Tijen (IISG Working Paper no.21). The second Next 5 Minutes conference was held three years later and the work on the database and the collection of materials send in to the conference has continued. The second version of the database has only be published in a draft version during the last days of the 1996 conference and also the first catalogue has sold out in the mean time. Reason to make this rather imperfect, but still very informative Web version of the Next 5 Minutes database. This database also includes references to documentation material on video tapes and other documents on activities of participants in the two N5M conferences. Due to divers difficulties (material in languages with non roman scripts, obscure titles or origin, incompatible formats) not all materials collected have been catalogued yet. Still the database has almost doubled in content and counts 555 items now.

For various reasons not all video tapes listed have found their way to the N5M archive. In the full description lists, ordered by the eight world areas, the second line from the bottom gives the 'call number' to be asked for in the International Institute of Social History. Three kinds of call numbers can be distinguished:
    -N5M = first Next 5 Minutes Conference
    -N5M2 = second Next 5 Minutes Conference
-CSDVHS = videotapes related to N5M collected separately by the IISG
When the word 'Documentation' is in the title it mostly concerns paper documents that are filed in boxes with the 'call number' indicated.

The contact person at the International Institute of Socail History in Amsterdam is Marien van der Heijden. The telephone number of the Institute is +31-(0)20-6685866. Further information on the IISH/IISG can be found at their website:  http://www.iisg.nl
